About

Extracted from the 1994 US Census database by Barry Becker. The task is to predict whether a person earns more than $50,000 a year. It is widely used for benchmarking classifiers and for studying bias, since it includes sex and race.

Things to watch for:

  • Neither file has a header row; values are separated by a comma and a space.
  • Missing values are written as ? (in workclass, occupation and native_country).
  • The first line of adult.test is a comment, and its labels end with a full stop (>50K.).
